Description
1980 Shovelhead FLT in exceptional condition. A vintage 1340cc (80 cubic inch) shovelhead tourer that wants nothing more than to ride. The engine, which was Harley's first rubber mounted engine, was completely rebuilt by a Harley Davidson specialist in 2016, including a new primary chain, pistons, valves, guides, Andrews camshafts, S&S tappet blocks and lifters, S&S oil pump, S&S super E "shorty" carburettor and S&S air filter, single fire ignition and coil are Twin-Tech is with silicon wires. I have all original parts, correct model 5 speed gearbox, left hand side shift, rotary gearbox with new clutch, new solenoid, fully enclosed final drive chain and the all important electric start.
This is a very nice vintage example, in remarkable condition, which has benefited from a complete teardown and thorough cosmetic refurbishment, with new engine and gearbox mounts, brake pads, battery, speedo cable etc. in the last year. The engine starts easily at the touch of a button every time. It runs very well and sounds great with no problems, the transmission shifts smoothly and rides as it should. The bike is 100% sealed and performance has been improved by the S&S "Shorty" carburettor, Twin-Tech ignition, a pair of long exhausts and a new alternator.
Four-cylinder billet brake callipers and Goodridge hoses ensure much better braking than the originals, and this Shovelhead will cope with modern traffic and keep up with any big twin powered by an Evo.
The original fibreglass HD tour-pack panniers and top-box are in very good condition and are complete with the original chrome wrap-around rails and locks. The front footrests and crash-bar are original. Original large-spoke cast aluminium wheels with excellent Avon Cobra tyres.
I have the original manual, workshop manual and parts list as well as the (almost) complete original tool kit in its original leather case. I brought this bike to France in 2017 and have all the appropriate paperwork. I am selling it as my age and health have made it too difficult for me to ride such a large machine and it is simply not used enough. The speedometer had to be changed before registration in France, from miles to kilometres. So I bought and fitted a complete new console which now reads less than 2000 km. (I still have the original which reads 76, 000) This really is a very well tuned and totally reliable vintage Harley, so if you are looking for an iconic Shovelhead tourer that is ready to jump on and ride without having to do loads of restoration work and engine upgrades, then this bike is definitely worth a look. The price reflects the quality and condition as well as the very large sum spent on all the new parts at £8500.
