Unlike its 993 predecessor, the 996 takes a major technological and aesthetic turn, and in particular switches to water cooling for ecological reasons. The German marque decided to reduce production costs by integrating large-scale production and reusing parts from other models, such as those from the Boxster. The body is more imposing, 18. 5cm longer, 3cm wider and with an 8cm longer wheelbase. The design is elegant and unadorned. On the mechanical front, water-cooling, although much criticised when it first came out, has increased power and performance. The downsizing of the engine to 3. 4 litres does not prevent power from increasing to 300 bhp for the base model. The engine was subsequently redesigned and returned to the 3. 6-litre Flat 6, enabling the 996 Carrera 4S in particular to increase its power output to 320bhp. Aesthetically, the use of the Boxster's headlamps for the 911 did not go down well. This was quickly rectified with the launch of the 911 Turbo and its inimitable look. The 996 Carrera 4S, which came out some time later, benefited from the changes made and featured the Turbo bodywork, with headlights, wide wings and the return of the famous red stripe at the rear. The 996 Carrera 4S is one of the most popular 996 models, thanks to its Turbo look and excellent performance.--- Europe's leading car concierge service, Carsup assists its customers with the purchase, care and sale of their vehicles, from classic cars to modern supercars.
