Description
EXCALIBUR CABRIOLET SS SERIES 1 from 1969. An astonishing fate for this extraordinary car. It was bought in July 1969 in the United States to enjoy the Californian sun. This open four-seater convertible was the happiness of an entire family. Then time passed and the children grew up. The car was entrusted to a museum, where it stayed for almost 30 years. Behind a fence it merely had to look the part to attract all eyes, and then came a friend of the former owner. Then one of the former owner's children visited. When he saw the car in the display case, he wanted to take it out of its golden cage and let it be driven. But time had passed for this car full of memories. The brakes were overhauled, the tyres were too old and the leather upholstery in very poor condition. In memory of his father, this man decided to revive the car that had accompanied his childhood. The son of the previous owner had substantial financial means. He gave several craftsmen free rein to renovate his father's car to original spec. The end result is splendid: the chassis was removed from the body, sand-blasted and repainted. All hoses and moving parts were replaced. The brakes were replaced with more modern ones. The tyres were, of course, replaced. The upholsterer started from scratch on the leather interior. The paint was refreshed in its original colour. The young lady is in excellent health. At 56 years old she really doesn’t look like a new car. The dream of a collector. Of the 33 EXCALIBUR SS PHAETON built in 1969, this one is certainly the prettiest. This car is also a true road-going vehicle with an acceleration that many modern cars would envy. A certain Jean Philippe Smet was enamoured with the Excalibur at the time. Nostalgia, memories of the sixties, nostalgia, nostalgia, nostalgia, nostalgia, nostalgia, nostalgia...
