Description
The Ferrari 308 GTS story When the Ferrari 308 GTS was unveiled at the 1977 Paris Motor Show, it was clear that this wasn't just another sports car-it was a future classic making its debut. The 308 GTS combined traditional Ferrari virtues with the spirit of the late 1970s. The timelessly elegant design was the work of none other than Leonardo Fioravanti, who as chief designer at Pininfarina had already been responsible for such legends as the Dino 246 GT and the Daytona (365 GTB/ 4). The lines of the 308 GTS are balanced, sporty and luxurious, with the characteristic wedge shape and distinctive air intakes behind the doors. The Targa version, with its removable roof segment, added a touch of freedom to the car-without the structural weaknesses of a cabriolet. Under the flat front bonnet was a transversely-mounted 2. 9-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine with four overhead camshafts. In the first version (until 1980), the engine was fed by four Weber carburettors and produced around 255 bhp. Power was transmitted to the rear axle via a precise 5-speed manual gearbox - pure driving pleasure was guaranteed. Between 1977 and 1980, exactly 3, 219 units of the carburettor version of the 308 GTS rolled off the production line, around half of which were exported to the US market. The Ferrari was produced at the Scaglietti factory in Modena, which had already built many Ferrari bodies. The big breakthrough in pop culture came with the American series "Magnum", in which Tom Selleck, alias Thomas Magnum, drove the 308 GTS through the sunny streets of Hawaii. This image - sporty, charming, a little rebellious - remains attached to the car today, making it a sought-after collector's item. Our initial diagnosis revealed no maintenance delays. The cavity protection has recently been renewed. The underbody is immaculate; the Ferrari has only been driven in Germany in proven good weather. The leather interior is original, with no cracks or breaks. Careful maintenance is also evident here. The paintwork is good; the demanding black paint shines, with a few microscopic stone chips to the front. A beautifully maintained European 'matching' Ferrari 308 GTS awaits its new owner. Currently, this vehicle has German registration documents, including proof of being a classic car. Copies of the Italian vehicle papers are also available.
