Description
While the Renault 21 is a very common car, its TXI version is much rarer and the quadra (four-wheel drive) version even more so, and the one I am selling is very rare as it is a Renault 21 TXI Quadra 5-door. The vehicle was built in December 1989 – the 6th in the series – and would not be registered until December 1991 after a stay in the park since it was a high-end model with many standard features: four-wheel drive, onboard computer, ABS and ESP, leather interior.
Its engine is a Douvrin J12-IE 2. 0-litre inline-4 petrol engine in a front longitudinal layout with electronic injection, a 12-valve distribution - cam-in-head and single camshaft with 3 valves per cylinder. Engine to be restored. There are also some works to be done inside, dashboard and front seats.
I bought this car in January 2015 to become the 5th owner; I know the third and fourth owners. I had to start with an impressive refurbishment because during the first MOT I had performed, there were 28 faults to correct, of which 11 required a retest.
In October 2016, I had the bodywork repainted (Carrosserie Claude Jean – Avignon) to even out the colour of parts that had darkened over time and those I had to change to bring the car back to its original version (grille in place of a R21 Turbo grille).
In 2019, I had a stainless steel exhaust system manufactured and fitted, as the original model was unobtainable.
During the COVID and post-COVID period, nothing moved; the vehicle has been stored in my garage while waiting to find suitable dampers. In 2023, a second quote was prepared for this at Auto Rétro Passion in Graveson, but the owner died before the work was completed.
A third garage took over, Halleur Classic Cars Saint-Andiol. The vehicle was restored and passed a technical inspection in January 2024, with 3 minor defects.
The vehicle is sold with a lot of spare parts, notably headlamps which are not always easy to find, but also stalks and other body or interior parts.
