Description
The Pier'auto garage, specialist in sports and concours cars, offers this Mercedes 190 SL of French origin, in a condition that will delight enthusiasts of the star-badge marque and of collectible automotive history.
Delivered new in Paris by the importer Royal-Elysées on 3 May 1961, in its attractive Hellelfenbein colour code DB 608 and a red/ bordeaux leather interior.
Put up for auction by Arcturial at the 2016 Retromobile show, it was bought by Howard Wise Card, an automotive professional based in the outskirts of London.
In May 2018, it was again put up for auction, but this time by Bonhams; it was acquired by a French company.
The car has therefore had only one private owner since 1974!
During 2020, a fire in the engine compartment led to a complete overhaul of its mechanics.
The engine and all peripheral accessories were removed. The engine bay was stripped, phosphated, then repainted.
The cylinder head detached from the block was rebuilt with replacement of the valves, their guides and fitted with unleaded seats.
The bottom end, for its part, has of course been checked.
The intake pipe was replaced, the Weber carburettors (original Solex) have been overhauled.
The entire set of mechanical ancillaries, starter, dynamo, distributor, fuel pump… and all consumables have been overhauled or replaced.
In total, more than €50, 000 of refresh costs have just been carried out.
When the bonnet is opened, everything is new and original in its entirety, with all its identification plates and stickers!
Its paint is of very good quality, well finished.
The door alignment is perfect.
All of its chrome work is magnificent, with only a slight ding to the rim of the grille.
Apart from the new carpets, the interior is entirely original!!!
At the wheel, it’s a return to the bygone years!
Its interior oozes history and gives it an undeniable charm that you won’t find in a car with a new interior.
Always fitted with its Blaupunkt radio, all of its accessories, switches and gauges are period-correct and functional.
Its Alpaca hood is new and seals perfectly.
Its year, 1961, featured a few improvements installed in the previous years, such as servo braking, a steering wheel with a safety ignition switch, a windscreen washer and two-speed wipers, sun visors and various other items…
It is accompanied by its toolkit and its spare wheel.
Visible at the Pier'auto garage in Beaufort-en-Vallée, in the 49 department.
