Description
I am putting my Lotus Elise S1 up for sale, becoming a dad in a few months (my wife isn’t happy about installing a child seat in the bucket seat, strange...).
The vehicle is in very good mechanical condition, and the interior and exterior are also in great shape. This example, originally English hence RHD, dates from 1998 (blue/ green glue) and was bought on European soil by its previous owner in 2014, so the car has only had 2 owners since then; I have the full history file, up to the original purchase invoice.
If you’re worried about the right-hand driving position, come and try it to realise that it’s by no means a problem and actually adds a certain charm to the drive; conversion kits are also offered.
AESTHETICALLY SPEAKING:
- Exterior colour "midnight blue" not original but in perfect condition: the paint was redone in 2020/ 2021. The original wheels are in good condition but with slight scuffs at the rear (easily touched up).
- The soft top is in good condition and largely watertight (I’m also including a "shower cap", a bespoke cover that hooks onto the car roof when stationary to prevent interior dampness, worth 120 euros).
- Interior in very good condition, original stack cluster functioning perfectly, plastic trim coated with a fabric with an Alcantara-like finish.
MECHANICALLY SPEAKING:
- Original 122 hp engine that shows no fatigue and does not overheat thanks to the modified thermostat kit installed (almost mandatory on these engines) which also helps avoid head gasket issues.
- The gearbox, sublime to use, shifts smoothly thanks to the various maintenances carried out (gear linkage replaced a few years ago).
- The underbody members are in very good condition with no crash marks and no corrosion.
- Custom stainless exhaust system.
- The clutch has less than 8, 000 km on it.
- The timing belt is up to date.
In terms of recent maintenance, regular oil changes and services have been performed on schedule with a few improvements:
- sport air intake,
- Yokohama AD08RS semi-slick tyres with about 3, 000 km (exceptional grip),
- aviation-style front and rear brake hoses.
- reworking of the exhaust gas system.
I’m parting with this exceptional car with great regret, a fantastic entry point into the world of lightweight sports cars that has accompanied me on many Alpine spins, unfortunately not on track, and with no major mechanical issues. This kind of vehicle is cheap to maintain, even cheaper in consumables (tyres, brakes) given the weight, and it drinks little, I’m achieving averages of 5–6 litres per 100 km.
