1992 Rover Mini City E – Classified of the Week

With literally millions built, and as such, one of the biggest enthusiast followings now behind it, it’s hard to stand out in the classic Mini world. However, somewhat remarkably, this stunning and rather shouty 1992 Rover Mini City has done exactly that. Needless to say, this is no Mini City anymore. It’s on a completely different level.

Before we get to the spice, let’s look at what makes it nice. Minis like to rot. In fact, they like to rot in the same way small dogs like to be amorous with legs. It’s just their thing. Not this one though, as the owner has replaced every bit of metal that ever saw rust and now this Mini City is solid as a rock. The scuttle and A pillars in particular make for pleasing viewing. No rust can be found, the chrome shines bright and everything is arrow straight. Those tasty silver and gold JBW wheels, however, suggest that this is more than your traditional restoration.

This is where things get exciting. Pop this Mini City’s face and you’ll be greeted with a very spicy 1275cc A Series engine that, well, packs a punch. Here’s the seller’s description: “The 1275 engine was built by a local mini specialist and has only done approx 3000 miles on this engine! It’s a refurbished 1275 with a modified head, 600 cam, HIF44 carb with MG Metro needle, LCB Y-piece, K&N filter, Maniflow manifold, Road race exhaust (RC80 2″ bore with centre outlet), engine pulls well. DVLA were notified of the engine change and shows on the V5.” See, spicy.

Inside the car has been stripped, it has bucket seats, a rally wheel and not a lot else. Underneath the suspension is new, the subframes are mint, the whole thing is spotless and has been done perfectly. This really is a Mini City like no other, and one that will never fail to put a smile on your face. Think about it, a basic 998 Mini is fun. Let alone one that’s lower, wider and significantly more powerful. At £10,500 it’s not cheap, but at the same time, there is no way you could build a Mini City like this for less. So really, it’s a bargain.
