Kremer 962 Group C Sells for £846,000 as Car & Classic’s Porsche Auction Tops £1.74 Million

Car & Classic’s ‘For The Love Of Porsche’ auction held online on Saturday 8th August 2026 was a resounding success. Hosted in partnership with Boxengasse, supported by motoring journalist Chris Harris, and showcased at Megaphonics ‘26, the sale netted an impressive £1.74m.
We take a deep dive into the auction results and, with more than 3,000 Porsches listed at any one time on Car & Classic, explore why Porsche is still one of the most talked-about carmakers in 2026.

He was dead by 1951, but Ferdinand Porsche left an indelible mark upon the company that bore his name. If ever a single line captured Porsche’s approach to engineering, it was these prophetic words from its founder. Only Porsche would spend sixty years continually refining a single model. It’s what makes the 911 so much more than just a car; it’s a motoring institution.
That’s not to say Porsche has ever shied away from innovation. Porsche’s transaxle offerings, world-beating hypercars and successful forays into the world of performance SUVs are evidence enough of the brand’s versatility, while nineteen overall victories at Le Mans have proved Porsche’s engineering credentials.
From humble beginnings hand-building cars in a small Austrian garage, Porsche blossomed into what is now widely considered the world’s foremost sports car manufacturer; a company worth celebrating, and that’s exactly what Megaphonics is all about.
‘For The Love of Porsche’
In August 2026, Car & Classic teamed up with Boxengasse to hold the ‘For The Love Of Porsche’ auction, a Car & Classic ‘Collector’s Edition’ sale centred around Megaphonics – Europe’s largest Porsche event.
Megaphonics takes place at Boxengasse’s 100-acre campus devoted to all things Porsche near Bicester, Oxfordshire. It’s here that Car & Classic assembled selected lots and had them out on display throughout the weekend, giving enthusiasts and prospective bidders the chance to see some of the cars up close before the excitement moved online, with bidding concluding the following weekend.
Megaphonics covers everything from early 356s to modern GT3s and plenty in between. In its ‘For The Love Of Porsche’ auction, Car & Classic was keen to offer a diverse range of Porsches for all budgets, representing the immense breadth of products the Stuttgart firm has produced over the years.
The Auction Results
For many, the undisputed star of the show was Car & Classic’s ex-Le Mans Kremer 962 Group C Endurance Race Car, driven by racing greats including Mario Andretti and Derek Bell. The best thing about it? The number plates affixed to either end. This is a genuine Group C car you can take to the shops. It doesn’t get much cooler than that. Unsurprisingly, the 962 romped on to £846,000 on the evening of the auction, around £100,000 more than the same car achieved at a recent physical auction.
Another highlight of the auction was a UK market 996-generation GT2. These Mezger-engined twin-turbocharged 911s are proving increasingly sought after, celebrated for their analogue nature; a welcome antidote to the realities of modern motoring. Ahead of the auction, Chris Harris spent some time behind the wheel, professing 996 911s to be “the next big thing”. His prediction was born out in the sale price of this well-sorted right-hand drive GT2, for which the hammer fell at £154,000.
While headline sales in modern classics proved the current appetite for younger cars, earlier Porsches also performed well in the sale, particularly the twin-plug-engined UK right-hand drive 1962 Porsche 356 B 1600 Super Cabriolet which achieved £106,000. In all, the auction showcased almost six decades of Porsche history.
