Car & Classic Collector’s Edition Results: Ten Sales Highlights Every Seller Should See

Car & Classic launched Collector’s Edition in November 2025 to showcase the cream of its auction crop. As a platform that champions every interesting car regardless of price, from a Ferrari Monza SP2 to an MGB, Car & Classic has dedicated the Collector’s Edition auction night to high-end, collector-grade cars, ranging from ’20s Bentleys to 996 GT2s and ex-Le Mans prototype racers.
With four Collector’s Edition online sales completed, including the ‘For The Love Of Porsche’ showcased at Megaphonics in August 2026, Car & Classic is gearing up for its next auction, which closes for bidding on 3rd October 2026.

Almost a year on from the first Collector’s Edition, we take a look back at the highlights.
2000 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition RS2
Kicking things off with a new auction world-record sale, our Evo VI TME was one of just 212 factory “Special Colour Pack” cars built, featuring unique graphics. The car’s provenance is exceptional: Mitsubishi used it for the model’s 2000 launch presentation before selling it to a single collector-owner, who preserved it until 2022.
With only 10,180km from new, original factory paintwork, OEM tyres, and Tommi Mäkinen’s signature on the roof, it is undoubtedly one of the most original, time-capsule examples of this rally-bred modern classic in existence.

1985 Lamborghini Countach LP5000 S
Still outrageous more than fifty years on from its debut, the Countach was Lamborghini’s replacement for the Miura. Designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, this wedge-shaped mid-V12-engined supercar was raw, uncompromising and unashamedly Italian in the extreme.
Anyone who’s kept an eye on the Countach market will know that they’re seriously good news these days, so it should come as no surprise that our 1985 LP5000 S romped on in auction. This US-delivered car was offered as a restoration project; a highly original survivor patiently waiting to be returned to its former glory. It became one of two Countach sold in Car & Classic Collector’s Edition auctions.

2003 Porsche 911 GT2 996
Another car experiencing a big boom in popularity right now is the 996-generation Porsche 911. These early water-cooled cars have enjoyed a huge resurgence, with rare variants proving particularly prized amongst collectors. This 2003 GT2 is one of just 129 right-hand-drive UK-market examples built. Finished in Arctic Silver over black leather with Alcantara headlining, it has been serviced exclusively by official Porsche centres throughout its life and has a full stamped history.
Recent investment included £40,000 of work by Tuthill in 2026. A special car then, and our friend Chris Harris took this example for a spin ahead of the auction.

1965 Aston Martin DB5 Sports Saloon
“Now, if you take the top off, you will find a little red button. Whatever you do, don’t touch it.”
Those were, of course, the immortal lines from Q, demonstrating the ejector seat fitted to agent 007’s DB5 in the 1964 film Goldfinger. The car’s appearance in the film and several later Bond stories immortalised it as Aston Martin’s most celebrated model.
It seemed only right then that Collector’s Edition should showcase a Silver Birch DB5, and that’s exactly what was consigned for the inaugural auction night. Formerly owned by John Taylor of Duran Duran, this restored example has had its engine bored out to 4.2 litres. Our vendor acquired the Aston in 2000, and it has also undergone a respray, partial retrim, and axle/suspension overhaul during their ownership, building on restoration work by GTC Engineering and Shapecraft. This was to be the first of two DB5s that have now sold in Car & Classic’s Collector’s Edition auctions.

1927 Bentley 3/4.5-litre
It’s no secret that the pre-war car market is not as buoyant as it once was, but when something as special as a Cricklewood-era Bentley comes up for sale, collectors bid with gusto. Our 1927 3/4.5-Litre Speed wears a Vanden Plas light touring body and was subtly hot-rodded with a 5.3-litre engine with a Phoenix Crankshaft, capable of 200 bhp. This car was restored with usability in mind, intended to be driven, not merely to languish in some collection. We think the Bentley Boys would have approved.
The Bentley was a highlight of Car & Classic’s second Collector’s edition auction, proving that the best pre-war motor cars can still attain strong prices. Our buyer collected the car and drove it home to the Netherlands.

1966 Jaguar XKSS Recreation by Lynx
Jags are cool cars. That’s why we love them. But which Jaguar did the undisputed ‘King of Cool’ choose to drive? Steve McQueen favoured the XKSS. Essentially a road-going version of the Le Mans-winning D-Type, just 25 were ever built, of which 9 were destroyed in the infamous browns Lane Fire of 1957.
Unlike JLR’s continuation cars, Lynx’s exacting replicas are road legal, and that’s what made our XKSS, one of a series of 9 cars made by Lynx, very special indeed. Lynx Motors knows the original inside and out, so no specialist was better suited to paying homage to this immensely special machine. It’s no wonder it proved such a hit at auction. A second Lynx XKSS will be coming to the October 3rd Collector’s edition sale.

1976 Porsche 930-to-934 RSR spec
This 1976 Porsche 930 is a road-legal recreation of Porsche’s fearsome 934 RSR: a homologation racer of which just 31 were built and which won the European GT and US Trans-Am championships. Fitted with an authentic Andial 934 RSR body kit, this genuine 930 Turbo was transformed with a professionally built 3.3-litre turbo engine producing approximately 550hp. It features 917-derived brakes, Bilstein suspension, and a Peterson dry-sump system.
The level of finish is nothing short of magnificent. With the same owner since 2004, a recent light restoration, and a fresh €9,000 engine overhaul, it was offered as a full-blown racecar for the roads. What’s not to love?

1963 Aston Martin DB4 Series V Vantage Special Series Sports Saloon
While many regard the DB5 as Aston’s first road car to use the now-iconic covered headlamp design, the Series V version of the DB4 first introduced the look. These final DB4s, of which just 55 are generally agreed to have been built, received significant alterations, including a 9cm wheelbase extension and a slightly raised roofline. Triple SU carburettors and higher compression increased power to 266 bhp. It’s no wonder these cars were known as the ‘Special Series’.
Our matching numbers DB4 came to market with a well-documented history. It was a usable car, richly patinated, but driving well, complete with MOT, ready for a new owner to enjoy as-is or embark upon a restoration.

1977 Ferrari 308 GTB Vetroresina
While Magnum PI favoured a steel-bodied GTS, keen drivers know the best Ferrari 308 was the early fibreglass GTB, known to collectors as the ‘Vetroresina’. It is the rarest and most coveted 308 GTB variant, weighing in at roughly 150kg lighter than later steel-bodied cars.
This matching-numbers example is Ferrari Classiche Certified and wears its rare “Argento Auteuil” silver over black leather. It’s refreshing to see one that isn’t in the ubiquitous Rosso Corsa over Crema. Stored in dry, heated conditions as part of a Spanish collection, it received a major service including timing belts at Ferrari dealer Kroymans in 2025.

1988 Porsche-Kremer 962 Group C
A genuine Group C prototype with Le Mans history is one thing, but add in the fact this one has number plates screwed to either end and you’ve got yourself something truly unrepeatable.
This Porsche-Kremer 962 was campaigned in period by a veritable who’s-who of superstar drivers: Bruno Giacomelli, Kunimitsu Takahashi, and Hideki Okada shared duties at Le Mans, while Mario Andretti and his son Michael Andretti have also driven it in anger. The chassis amassed four overall victories in the FIA European Interserie and contested rounds of both the IMSA World Challenge and the FIA World Sportscar Championship.
A star of Car & Classic’s stand at Megaphonics, the 962 went on to headline the ‘For The Love Of Porsche’ auction where we’re pleased to report it found a new custodian.
