Baseus In-Car Vacuum – Product Review

Chris Pollitt

I’m not going to lie, readers. I, like most men my age, chuffin’ love a gadget. Nine times out of ten, said gadget turns out to be utterly useless (looking at you, Gator Grip) but sometimes these little time-saving bundles of joy are good. Others, like this little Baseus vacuum cleaner, fall somewhere in the middle. I was alerted to its existence via someone on Twitter, which was recommendation enough. Plus, I’m terrible with money and I can’t, as I just said, resist a gadget. Plus, I’m a stickler for having the interior of my car as clean as it can be. This seemed like the perfect solution. I could keep on top of the dust and inevitable footwell grit, making sure my car was fresh at any given moment.

The Product

Well, as you can see, it’s a small vacuum. No prizes for guessing that. However, there is more than meets the eye. About the size of a drinks bottle, this little Baseus unit packs a lot of features. First of all, it’s got a built-in 6000mAh lithium battery, and it seems to last for a very long time indeed. It has inbuilt filters, so the main suction drive doesn’t get full of junk, it has an open head with non-return flap so the dirt stays put, and it comes with an attachment with brush for better dirt agitation. Very nice indeed. Oh, and there is a ‘hose’ that you fit to the, um, non-sucky end, which then blows air out. You could use it to blow dust out of tight spaces and so on. Very nifty. It’s made well, and feels very sturdy, it comes with a little carry bag and it’ll cost you around £35. So far, so good.

The Test

I park my Vitesse in a gravely spot, so the footwell is always full of stones and the like. So, with that in mind, I set about vacuuming up the dirt and debris. The Baseus vacuum boasts 5000Pa of sucking power. I’m not sure what a Pa is, but 5000 strikes me as a lot. Too much, maybe? I won’t lie, I didn’t think it would work all that well. How could a small device like this possibly be any good at sucking up some weighty gravel?

The Result

Okay, so it’s not exactly a builder’s Transit in there, but a test is a test. If the Baseus unit can’t deal with this, then we’re in trouble. Happily though, it did, with aplomb. And this, I think, is what this little vacuum is best suited to. You give your car the full valet, you cart the Dyson out of the house and give the interior a proper cleaning, then you use the Baseus to stay on top if it thereafter, or until the next big clean session. I also loved the blow hose, so to speak. It blew all the dust out of the dash, the centre console and the seat crevices. I just wish it could fit to the sucky end (technical term, there) and so pull fine dust out of tight spots. On the whole, I was impressed. One thing does let it down, though. It is SO. VERY. LOUD. It’s a vacuum, so it’s not going to be silent, but man alive, this is piercing. For clarity, I live in a first-floor flat. The wife commented how loud it was when I came back upstairs. I was IN THE CAR PARK, and yet it was LOUD IN MY FLAT. It’s like a little Harrier jump jet, but under your steering wheel.

The Verdict – 4 out of 5

As a device, it’s great. It does what it should, it sucks up dirt, it’s small, the battery seems to last an age and it’s very well made. However, the noise is a serious one-point violation. It is intrusively loud. As in, you’ll become conscious of anyone within 200 yards when you use it. If you can live with that, though, you should buy one.
