Car & Classic Auto-Social – Achievement Unlocked

FOMO. It’s one of those trite Gen Z maxims, like “peng” and “slaps” that the youths bandy about nowadays. And no, we didn’t just make those up. It’s OK, we didn’t really understand what they meant either, before heading over to Google for a helping hand. The truth of the matter is, however, that FOMO, or fear of missing out, is a real thing. We’ve no doubt all felt this desire to be involved at some point in our lives. Whether it’s going out on a Friday night despite promising ourselves we would stop drinking so much and save our pennies because our besties (we’re getting the hang of this Gen Z speak now) are hitting the town, or bulk buying toilet roll during a global pandemic. It’s not a new phenomenon but it has certainly become more widespread with the advent and subsequent propagation of social media. But this isn’t a lecture on socio-economics, we’re just here to tell you that if you didn’t come along to the inaugural Car & Classic Auto-Social at the weekend then you did indeed miss out because it was a raging success, not to mention a whole lot of fun.

There was a decent American contingent too and classics from across the pond were well-represented. The Chevrolet Corvair Monza Spider was a particular highlight. As was the

But worry ye not, dear reader, because we have another two Car & Classic Auto-Social events coming up in the very near future, one in February and one in March, so if you didn’t manage to get tickets for this one then there’s still ample opportunity to get involved. We’ll be posting the details of both of these shindigs soon so keep your peepers peeled. Should you choose to come along (and why wouldn’t you?) then you’re guaranteed a top morning of cars, coffee and conversation. Just like last Saturday where a marvellously motley crew of you lucky lot managed to bag tickets and joined us at The Classic Motor Hub in Cirencester for a swell old time amongst some truly glorious classic metal and like-minded enthusiasts. It’s safe to say our very first event was a roaring success and we can’t wait for the next one.

Starting the day with a cup of hot coffee and a bacon sarnie is always a great way to kick off an event and those in attendance at the very first Car & Classic Auto-Social clearly agreed. With breakfast done and dusted and the desire for pork products and pick-me-ups satiated there was still much to digest in the way of classic vehicles. Thanks not only to The Classic Motor Hub’s fine collection – which included some particularly stunning pre-war Bentleys – but also to the myriad motors that you bunch brought with you, despite the considerably cold Cotswolds morning and there was a wonderfully eclectic mix. Spanning Yanky gems, a plethora of Porsches, luscious Lancias and beautiful Bristols it was great to see such a diverse range of classics running the gamut of all tastes, budgets and eras.

There were some truly special cars that made the journey and this Peugeot 206 Richard Burns WRC reproduction was a joy to behold. While many people associate Burns with Subaru it was Peugeot that lured him away in 2002 and the 206, like the one seen here, was his steed for the duration of his tenure with the French team.

It wasn’t just vintage metal on display either. There were a few modern classic thrown into the mix too, including a BMW M4 and even a Renault Avantime.

There was plenty to get excited about along with all of the classics on show too. Automotive artist and illustrator extraordinaire Terry Putman, known online as Illustrator Maker, was on hand displaying his considerable talent and contemporary artist Ian Cook, also known as POPBANGCOLOUR, was also there with his unique take on creating automotive art. Ian eschews the conventional artist’s tools and methods and instead chooses to use radio controlled cars to create his pieces. Incredible.

It was lovely to see and hang out with our friends Ian Seabrook (HubNut) and Lewis Warren from mental health ambassadors Takona, too and there was a real sense of community and togetherness that was a joy to be a part of. And that’s what these events are all about, coming together to share our passion for classic vehicles in a relaxed atmosphere and convivial environment, so if you’re not yet signed up to our newsletter then get involved now because details of the next Car & Classic Auto-Social will be hitting inboxes imminently. Quash those FOMO feelings and get your tickets as soon as they’re available, not to mention some exclusive potential swag from the day too. Those of you who applied for the first event but were too late for tickets will be offered first dibs on admission to the next one. Places will fill up fast again though so fix that annoying misfire, break out the quick detailer and we’ll hopefully see you at the next Car & Classic Auto-Social.
