The Appeal
The Hillman Hawk is a rare and imposing pre-war tourer, and this particular example - first registered in 1936 - is made all the more remarkable by its Wingham coachbuilt body, a handsome shell that was typically reserved for Rolls-Royce and Bentley chassis of the period. Believed to be unique, BKV 441 is a striking and substantial open tourer.
During a previous 25-year period of continuous ownership, this Hawk was subjected to a chassis-up rebuild, and it's still a fine looker, having attended a great many weddings under previous ownership. Since purchase by the vendor in 2018, it's been pampered and largely kept in dry, secure storage.
The vendor informs us that the smooth six-cylinder engine performs well and the four-speed gearbox is a delight to use. Recently collected from winter storage, it reportedly started on the fourth turn of the engine after months of stood static. It ticks plenty of boxes, and makes for a very unique rarity. Not to be missed!
