Comprehensive bodywork, paintwork, engine and trim restoration
Desirable Surrey Top version
Factory overdrive model
Refurbished to replicate light rally road car
Work recently completed with few miles since
Triumph’s run of TRs were that most versatile of sport cars, their simple durability making them as at home on road, race tracks and gravel rally stages.
The TR4 built on that reputation by adding handsome Michelotti styling to the mix. These cars were particularly popular in the USA where their sleek lines, reliability and sweet-revving 2.1litre engines were highly rated.
This 1963 TR4 began its life in the USA before being exported from the dry state of Arizona to Italy in 2011. It has recently been extensively restored across engine, bodywork and interior, including a full respray, to replicate the aesthetics of the in-period TR4 rally cars. It comes equipped with a desirable ‘Surrey’ hard top.
With very few miles travelled since the work was completed in 2022, this is a fantastic opportunity to buy a box-fresh example that looks perfect for road and regularity events.

Retrimmed during the restoration to a high standard

Retrimmed interior combining tan leather with white dashboard
Dashboard lightly revised with modern ventilation and white trim
3 spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel and period radio
Bucket leather seats in tan with headrests and RRS harnesses
Smart Jaeger dials appear to have been refurbished
The recent restoration of this TR4 has clearly been executed to a very high standard, as evidenced by the quality of the Wedgewood light blue paintwork and panel fit, particularly across the doors.
The interior reflects a similar quality ethos with retrimmed tan leather seats. There are elements of the interior that have been modernised, such as the fitment of in-dash ventilation and a white finish to the fascia, but it works well.
The car has barely been used since the work was completed about 12 months ago and presents in box fresh, immaculate condition.
2,138cc 100bhp 4cyl Triumph engine
Twin Delorto twin choke carburettors fitted
4spd manual with factory fitted optional overdrive
Rebuilt engine including four new cylinders and cylinder head rebuild
Very little use since completion enabling the buyer to buy a virtually brand new car
The TR4 used the same engine as the TR3 but with greater displacement and more power. Cars could be factory supplied with a desirable overdrive option to improve high speed cruising and this car is one of them.
We are told that the engine has been comprehensively rebuilt, including a cylinder head rebuild, and the car appears to have covered less than 10 miles since that work was done. It is usefully fitted with a pair of twin choke Delorto carburettors.
