The Appeal
Few cars deliver elegant quite so effortlessly as the W113 ‘Pagoda.’ Of the many engine and gearbox combinations, this car’s 2.3L engine and manual box are closest to the template set by the car’s designers and provide a pleasing mix of power and engagement.
This pretty Old English White 230SL spent its life in the dry climes of Texas before arriving in the UK with the first of its two local keepers in 2015. The previous keeper undertook an extensive renovation that included a respray, new white banded tyres, replacement dark navy mohair roof and refurbished cabin veneers.
The vendor acquired the car in 2021 and has continued the investment theme. Recent work has included rebuilding the gearbox, replacing the distributor and fitting electronic ignition to improve reliability.
With its generous history file and compelling white and blue colour scheme and matching hard top, this is a very usable example of the Bracq masterpiece.
The vendor says:
“The Mercedes Pagoda is a true work of art, one of the most beautiful cars ever built and if I could keep it I would and what I love most when driving the car with the top up or down is the admiration and respect from everyone around you.”
