The Appeal
There's no hiding it: the 928 is a too-often underrated gem and certainly not your average Porsche. With its water-cooled, front-mounted V8 engine, it is a truly unique Porsche. In its day it was very controversial and even today is relatively little sought after by enthusiasts. A real shame!
But as those in the know know, its top-notch performance, its thrilling sound and its nature as a true top-class Grand Tourer make the 928 one of the most fascinating cars around - and that's not all. In 1980, the 'S' version was introduced, with the V8 engine raised to the remarkable cubic capacity of 4.7 litres, capable of 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 6.6 seconds. It was a truly remarkable car and an absolutely innovative and unique approach to the German supercar concept, a far cry from traditional Porsche styling cues while still offering all the quality and solidity expected of cars made in Stuttgart.
This splendid 928 is even rarer, as it is one of the very few examples equipped with a manual gearbox with rather long ratios but very satisfying handling. It is a perfect representative of the qualities of the 928, with very comprehensive equipment and a special exhaust system, and the engine has been overhauled, making it even more desirable.
