THE APPEAL

Just as the much-loved 'Triton' hybridises the Norton Wideline Featherbed frame and the Triumph parallel-twin engine, the lesser known 'NorBSA' follows a similar formula. The Norton frame is known for its excellent handling, while the BSA engine is renowned for its reliability and performance. These custom machines ruled the North Circular during the 'Ton Up' era, and are still made by skilled enthusiasts to this day.
This 1956 example is no exception. Purchased in 1972 as the second keeper, this NorBSA has undergone some changes within the 51-year ownership, an upgraded engine being the main thing which now features upgraded carburettors, electronic ignition and an electric start eliminating the hard work of a kickstarter, although that is still in place.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • V5 is present and shows 0 previous keepers 
  • The original registration booklet is present and shows one previous keeper
  • Registered 6th June 1956
  • Some previous MOT certificates are present 
  • Being sold from a friend's estate 
  • Unfortunately, very little paperwork has been found to show the history of the bike

THE CONDITION 

  • Well presented
  • Wideline featherbed frame finished in deep purple
  • Five-gallon aluminium petrol tank is in good condition 
  • Front and rear aluminium mudguards are free from dings or dents 
  • Cafe racer style dropped handlebars are in good condition 
  • Grips are in good order with minimal wear
  • The levers have a small amount of tarnishing but nothing excessive 
  • The original switchgear is in good order
  • Instruments are said to be working correctly 
  • There is an additional oil pressure gauge fitted
  • The headlight is now using an H4 bulb. The surround is in good condition with a bright finish
  • Front and rear indicators have been installed. These have been slightly tinted and are quite small, so they are very discrete 
  • Foot pegs are in good condition
  • There is some wear to the kickstarter
  • The seat has been retrimmed
  • Akront 19” aluminium wheels are in excellent condition with no tarnishing 
  • Avon RoadRider tyres are in like new condition 

THE MECHANICS

  • BSA A75R in-line triple rocket III engine
  • The engine was replaced in the 1980s, and there is a possibility it was upgraded to an 850. Unfortunately, with the owner sadly passing away, there is no way of the vendor knowing, so it is being sold as a 750cc 
  • The engine was rebuilt three years ago 
  • Upgraded with Carrillo steel con-rods 
  • T160 conversion to allow an electric start to be fitted as aswell as the kickstart
  • Electronic ignition 
  • Upgraded carbruettors which are said to have been imported from the States
  • Custom-made stainless steel three-into-one exhaust system 
  • The bike starts up and runs as it should, with no issues reported
  • Twin leading front brake hub brings the NorBSA to a stop with ease

Gone are the days of kickstarting the triple; thankfully, the owner fitted an electric start and electronic ignition, making starting the triple a breeze.
