The Appeal
Part of the enduring success of the Mk2 amongst classic collectors is that these cars remain so usable. Torquey XK engines keep up with modern traffic, there’s decent boot space and the cabins are amongst the loveliest places to while away the A to B drive.
This car adds power steering and an automatic box to those qualities. It presents well in gloss black with an original saddle brown interior and would be perfect as a classic event and touring car.
A previous keeper of this car was politician Lord David Steel, who you can quite imagine stylishly travelling around the country in it between appointments. It is said to be very original and features black finish and slim Coombs-style rear arches.
The vendor acquired the car four years ago and has topped up the extensive maintenance file with regular servicing The front brakes have also been upgraded. We are told that the car runs well with good oil pressure and steady water temperature.
The vendor says:
“Still retains all its period charm and nostalgia but still able to hold its own in modern day traffic with ease. TAX and MOT exempt. Any inspections and test drive welcome. This is a great MK2, and I've cherished it for 4 years now. It drives really well, and all temps and pressures are where they should be (it was happy going up and down Sutton Bank last year, for instance).
“It's got a great history and lots of documentation for work done in the past. I've spared no expense on looking after it, with bills to prove. Now it's your turn to own a piece of British history.”
