The Appeal
Classic car rallying has never been more popular than it is today. And indeed, what better car to go rallying in than this well-prepared Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV 2000? Renowned for its excellent handling, with near-perfect weight distribution and a glorious twin-cam engine, these are very capable cars - and very beautiful too!
The vendor says:
"You can play with the throttle to round the curves; you enter braking hard (with a restless rear), release the brake, and correct with the accelerator. If you are precise, the car floats from curve to curve, with a progressive oversteer that can be modulated."
As you can see in the photographs, this Alfa incorporates all the equipment you need to get started in historic rallying, including Terratrip timing equipment, spot lamps, sports bucket seats and even a roll cage. We adore the period-style race livery, and the car looks to be in very good overall condition. The vendor demonstrates that the 2.0-litre Nord engine runs sweetly and revs freely, having been overhauled just 5,500 km ago. With inspection until October 2025, this charming Alfetta rally car is ready to go.image00031.jpeg8.03 MB
History and Paperwork
1983 model year, the later and more angular GTVs
96,463 km indicated
Road legal
Inspection valid until October 2025
The engine was reportedly rebuilt just 5,500 km ago
The vendor informs us that it is mechanically excellent
The engine has recently been rebuilt and reportedly runs very well
Revs up with joy, and in rally preparation has only a lightly filtered exhaust, so it sounds metallic and fierce
Steering is direct and heavy, but communicates every stone on the ground
Not power-assisted, so you need real skill, especially at low speeds or on very winding sections
The gear change, typical Alfa linkage, can be somewhat "rubbery", but in a good rally setup, it is tuned to be fast and precise
When driving fast on a section, the Alfetta reportedly feels very balanced: the engine is in the front, but the differential and clutch are in the back (transaxle), so it distributes weight well
