The Appeal
In 1989, Land Rover expanded their range with the Discovery, and decided that their bread-and-butter Land Rovers needed a dependable brand name to differentiate them. They eventually settled on the Defender, which became one of the longest-running single-generation cars in history, and one of the most iconic off-roaders on the planet.
Before that, though, they were simply Land Rover Nineties, One Tens or One Two Sevens, reflecting their wheelbase lengths.
