The Appeal
Sometimes even a Rolls-Royce isn’t enough. In the 80s and 90s, for those customers there was Hooper. Thanks to an injection of cash in 1983 the firm, first founded in 1807, found itself offering a range of bespoke hand-crafted limousines and coupes costing up to £275,000. In 1987.
This is one of them. It is an Emperor, the LWB limousine based on the Silver Spirit. Just 13 were built, of which only 5 were Limousines like this one. It was built for Mrs Kiyomi Ikemura of Japan and was the penultimate Emperor.
Finished in Dark Oyster metallic with a caramel leather interior, it is a feast for the eyes. The Hooper handcrafting skills are evident everywhere, from the bespoke rear window to the hand-laid veneers and, of course, the extra 550mm in the wheelbase and roof raised by 40mm.
Thanks to a very low mileage of just 38,607 miles (62,132 kms), it remains in very original and well kept condition. There are some light indications of its 34 years, but they are minor. It is an impression confirmed by a long, advisory-free MOT.
Saloons really do not get more sumptuous than this. It is a car with obvious commercial scope, it keep it for your self. But since this is a car likely best enjoyed from the rear, you may need to employee a chauffeur or rope in a friend. But, looking at this magnificent land yacht’s array of TVs, curtains, and even a fridge, it is surely worth it.
