The Appeal
Only 350 156 Sportwagons were built in RHD with manual gearboxes, each one assembled on a dedicated line at the famous Pomigliano D’Arco plant in Naples using 250bhp 3.2L ‘Busso’ engines assembled for Alfa Romeo by Maserati in Modena. Of that worldwide production, just 110 found UK buyers.
All of which makes this 2003 GTA quite special. Giuseppi Busso’s ‘violin of Arese’ and that slick manual box make it one of the best and rarest estate cars of the modern classic era. It is a factory standard car in attractive Blue Metallico with a black leather interior. The eagle eyed will note that it retains the now rare-as-hens-teeth factory stereo.
The history file amassed by its six keepers shows regular servicing and maintenance by main dealers and specialists. The last service was in April 2025 and included a cambelt change. Other 2025 work included new font discs, coolant tank, engine mounts, new battery, a/c regas, thermostat and new intake manifold gasket. In September last year the car was treated to £1,300 worth of underside cleaning and Lanoguard treatment.
The last MOT ran to April 2026, so the car will need a new test and perhaps some work before hitting the road (the current owner has a fresh test booked for 12/06/2026). Once done, the buyer gets one of the rarest and best Alfas of the modern era. All that and scope to carry passengers, luggage and a hound or two.
