The Lotus Elan S4 is a two-seater sports car produced by the British automaker Lotus Cars from 1968 to 1973. It was the penultimate iteration of the original Elan model, which was first introduced in 1962.
The Elan S4 featured a fiberglass body mounted on a steel backbone chassis. It was powered by a 1, 558cc DOHC four-cylinder engine that produced 118 horsepower and was paired with a four-speed manual transmission.
One of the most notable features of the Elan S4 was its handling, which was considered to be among the best of any sports car of the era. The car was praised for its nimble and precise steering, as well as its excellent grip and balance. This was thanks, in great part, to its adherence to Colin Chapman’s “just add lightness” mantra.
The Elan S4 also featured a number of improvements over earlier models, including revised suspension and brakes, a more spacious interior, and a larger fuel tank. Production was discontinued in 1973.
Like all our cars, this Lotus will be supplied fully checked over and serviced and with a new MOT. It will also be HPI checked and if sold for use within the UK, will come with a comprehensive warranty.
