One of the most striking silhouettes of any Alvis car. Ian Duncan, an aeronautical engineer, initially made a few bodies for Donald Healey.
Stan Boshier, an Alvis agent, was so impressed he asked Duncan to put a similar body on an Alvis TA14. The result was a daring pillarless saloon body with a large glass area and an elegant streamlined tail with large luggage capacity. The seating area reminiscent of a fighter plane in our opinion.
Seasoned ash frames were used taking three weeks to assemble using 62 pieces of wood, screwed and glued; the resin used to bond the frame of the Mosquito fighter bomber.
Chassis and running gear were the same as on an Alvis TA14 but the Duncan weighed 3cwt less and gave far superior performance from its 1892cc four cylinder engine, mated to its 4 speed synchromesh gearbox.
The Duncan, at the time, was twice the cost of the TA14 at £2199 and £1000 more than the Jaguar XK120!
"This elegant sports saloon is at once outstanding, its handsome contours creating the impression of silent speed, superb acceleration and excellent road manners" wrote Autocar.
FGG 936, affectionately known as Isadora, is one of only 27 produced from 1947/ 8 and presents very well indeed with her black/ red coachwork and contrasting leather interior.
