We have recently purchased this 1976 Triumph Stag via Car & Classic Auctions. Unfortunately, the description provided by the previous owner was not factual, particularly with regard to the condition of the bodywork.
While the car presented reasonably in photographs, the bodywork was not anywhere near the standard described once inspected in person. There were a number of paint-related issues throughout the car, including poor stone-chip finishes under the bonnet and in the boot, along with other cosmetic defects that detracted from the overall presentation.
Although the car was perfectly usable as it stood, it was clear that to make it a proper, high-quality Triumph Stag, the bodywork required a full repaint. We have therefore taken the decision — and incurred the expense — to have the car completely repainted, rectifying all cosmetic shortcomings properly and professionally.
Once completed, this will be a very smart and striking example, finished in Mimosa Yellow, a colour that suits the Stag exceptionally well. The repaint is currently underway and is expected to be completed by mid-January.
Importantly, the fundamentals of the car were always strong. The interior is superb, with excellent seats showing no sagging, the chromework is very good, and the hood is perfect. Mechanically, the car is also impressive: the previous owner spent approximately £3, 900 within the last year, and the car drives extremely well.
The Stag is supplied with a good history file and a Heritage Certificate. We regularly sell and stock Triumph Stags and are very familiar with what constitutes a good example. Once completed, this will be a properly prepared and presented Triumph Stag, finished to the high standard for which we are known when offering these cars for sale.
The photographs currently shown were taken at the time of purchase. While they show the car attractively, they do not fully reveal the paint defects that prompted the repaint. A comprehensive photographic record of all work being carried out is being maintained and can be shared with interested parties.
