The Appeal
In the early 1970s no saloon car came close to Jaguar’s superlative XJ. It rode better than a Rolls, looked fantastic and had that louche long, low style and old-school mix of leather and wood that only Jaguar could deliver.
The arrival of the 5.3L V12 engine made things even better, while the Daimler badge turned the luxury dial to 11. Just 1,925 Series 2 Daimler-badged XJ12 cars were built, and this late 1974 car is one of the last to be built with the more reliable carburettor-fed set-up.
It is a gorgeous example, finished in rare Lavender Blue with dark blue interior. The vendor acquired the car in 2016 and confirms the authenticity of the 42,000 miles from new. He has continued to use it sparingly, reporting that it has always been reliable.
In 2021 the car received a full respray in the original colour and the following year the blue leather was treated and fed. The carburettors have also been rebuilt with new gaskets and needle floats. The seller tells us the car shows good oil pressure, starts and runs well and both fuel tanks work correctly. It was freshly serviced prior to sale.
The vendor says:
“This car is in absolutely beautiful condition, there is one little bubble that come up on the bottom wheel arch size of a 2p, Water must’ve got under the paint work because there was no rot there at all, this car is very very solid and needed,
“The car has been dry stored all its life. This is an historic vehicle so MOT and tax exempt , this car deserves to be at the shows, but I’m just not getting the time, only selling due to trimming down on my collection.”
