The Appeal
If you wanted an inexpensive two-door, you wanted a Ford Anglia. A cheap-as-chips four-door? You wanted the Ford Prefect. At launch, these cars were the most affordable saloon on the market, and you'd think then they'd be distinctly featureless, austere vehicles. Not so! With their vertical-bar grille, surprisingly distinguished stance and clean, uncluttered cabin, the Prefect was a sum greater than its parts, and even today, they provide a classic that's reassuringly tactile, analogue and rather stylish.
Most of the 192,229 built were run into the ground, such was the nature of post-war metal and the car's popularity as a no-fuss, cheap, simple classic. As a result, survivors are comparatively rare compared to Ford's more iconic classics, and a good, original one is bound to garner a dedicated fanbase.
This example comes to us with an impressively solid body, a classic colour scheme and much of the interior intact. A little restoration of the latter wouldn't go amiss, but the car itself is still very much a drivable, usable example - ready and waiting for its next enthusiast.
