The Appeal
The MGA is rightfuly hailed as revolutionary. Thanks to its sleek streamlined styling and agile, perky performance, this was the car that truly ushered in a new era for the legendary British sports car, and its long-standing association with the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans only deepens its appeal among enthusiasts. Le Mans-spec recreations are highly prized as a result.
This example began life in July 1959 as a 1600 Mk1 Roadster, exported new to California in left-hand drive form. Having spent its early life in a dry climate, it was reimported to the UK and subsequently became the subject of a thorough restoration and Le Mans recreation spanning approximately ten years. The vendor informs us that the bodywork was professionally rebuilt and repainted to a very high standard, while the mechanical work encompassed a rebuilt engine with unleaded head, upgraded carburation, electronic ignition, front disc brakes, new suspension, and a new wiring harness. The carburettors and timing were set up by noted specialist Andrew Grabowski of AG Classics.
Purchased by the current owner in 2023, it has since been carefully stored as part of a private collection with virtually no use. Accompanied by a Heritage Certificate and a detailed history file documenting the restoration photographically, this MGA represents a fine opportunity to acquire a well-presented Le Mans recreation that is ready to enjoy.image.png1.49 MB
