The Appeal
If your interests stretch to classic car rallies and touring then Austin Healey’s 3000 Mk2 should be high on your shortlist. With its comfortable cabin, increased performance and such luxuries as wind up windows, good examples of these cars are always in demand.
This 1962 car is certainly all that. Originally despatched, like most 3000s, to the USA, it returned to the UK a few years ago whereupon the vendor commissioned a ‘nut and bolt’ restoration. This work was overseen by a Rolls-Royce trained Master Mechanic and undertaken to a very high standard. The vendor tells us that the cost was £50,000, of which £25,000 was in parts alone. It covered mechanicals, bodywork overhaul and a full retrim. Parts and serviced were sourced from blue chip Austin Healey specialists like AH Spares and Aldridge Trimming. The work included a conversion to RHD.
Now finished in a beautiful combination of dark blue with painted wires paired with a new mohair roof and lovely Biscuit leather interior, piped in blue to suite with the interior, this is a really good example of the later BJ7. The vendor suggests that it is one of the best available and the photos certainly point in that direction.
The car comes to market with a vast history file documenting the work and few miles since completion. This is a great opportunity for the buyer to capitalise on all that investment.
The vendor says:
“This car is truly one of the best British examples of the Marque that can be found anywhere.
“If you are looking for an inflation beating investment, in superb condition, that is being brought to the market for the very first time of offering, then look no further. This car can be taken out to shows, or for a superific Sunday jaunt, a perfect tonic in these changing times - then look no further.
“I am seeking a truly deserving client that will appreciate the craftsmanship, labour and skill taken to rebuild and conserve the Austin Healey BJ7. Moreover, a client that is not simply willing to pay the right price for excellence but a client that appreciates excellence when he/she sees it.”
