The Appeal

From 1968 to 1976, the W114 and W115 were Mercedes-Benz’s flagship. Nearly two million were sold in total, and they proved themselves very ably for plenty of purposes. They were durable, beautifully-built workhorses that were equally at home as Berlin taxis as they were a luxury Sunday driver.
This example, built in 1970, was originally a US market example. Imported to the Netherlands in 2014, it’s since undergone a swathe of work that leaves it in utterly superb fettle.

  • All instruments are clear and easy to read
  • Underneath, the car is in good, solid condition with no significant faults
  • Some light signs of surface corrosion due to the European weather 

 

The Mechanics

  • 2.5L M114 I6 engine replaced with a 2.8L M110 I6 in 2016
  • Upon installation, the new engine had covered 157,000km
  • Converted to LPG
  • Automatic transmission 
  • Engine bay in good order
  • Renewal work included a new steering box and master cylinder
  • No reports of leaks, knocks, bangs or smoke
