The Attractions
The story of the Jolly began when Gianni Agnelli, Fiat's main shareholder and director and a famous playboy, decided to treat himself to a sort of land 'tender' to be used for visiting the seaside resorts and small seaside villages of the Mediterranean. Carrozzeria Ghia was commissioned to create an open, unmistakably seaside and holiday spirit version of the small Fiat 500, eliminating the roof and doors and replacing much of the interior with rattan seats and shiny, nautical-inspired handrails. Thus the 'Jolly' was born, and soon all of Agnelli's friends wanted a similar car. Quite a limited number were made at the time, and today they are extraordinarily rare cars, so a well-made replica like this one is an irresistible temptation.
This example of a 1971 Fiat 500 was transformed into an open Jolly configuration by a well-known and highly regarded company that specialises in Fiat 500 restorations and conversions. The result is a car that looks as good as new and, according to the seller, has never been driven on the road after the transformation.image00043.jpeg411.72 KB
