The Appeal
The SL, or “Sport Light” has been an iconic addition to the Mercedes-Benz line up since its inception in the 1950s. After the legendary original 300SL there was the W113 in the '60s, the R107 in the '70s and '80s, the R129 in the 1990s, et cetera, et cetera. We could go on, after all, the SL is still being made today in the form of the R232, such is its enduring legacy. But it's the R129 we want to shine a light on here.
Debuting in 1988, the R129 SL roadster was beautifully designed by Bruno Sacco and featured many technological advancements for the time, including electronically controlled suspension damping, and it continued to be a popular model for the German manufacturer.
Handsome, capable, eminently well-built and available with a multitude of different engines there was a flavour for every palate and today the R129 generation remains a relatively affordable entry into SL ownership. This particular car is a rather stunning 300SL-24 with a 3.0-litre straight-six engine and five-speed automatic gearbox resplendent in an especially elegant Arctic White over blue leather colour scheme that should make any fan of the marque sit up and take notice.
