The Appeal

The W220 S-Class was the fourth generation of the esteemed luxury flagship from Stuttgart. It replaced the W140 in 1998 and managed to be noticeably more compact on the outside whilst offering more space and comfort on the inside. A true automotive Tardis. Of course, the W220 was a technical tour de force offering a choice of semi-active air suspension or full active hydropneumatic suspension.

Your average W220 was replete with every refinement the early 2000s had to offer. These included Parktronic visual parking aid, fully automatic climate control, self-closing doors, self-opening and closing boot, electric seats, electric everything else… and the list goes on… and on. It was during this period that the S-Class really cemented its reputation as the choice of the most demanding and revered captains of industry.

The Condition

This S-Class presents in the perennially popular Mercedes silver livery
The original five-spoke, 18-inch Mercedes-Benz alloy wheels are fitted
The paintwork exhibits numerous blemishes
These include scratches and wear marks, especially to the from bumper cover
Other areas exhibit rust staining and early signs of under-paint corrosion
The wheels variously exhibit kerb rash and lacquer deterioration
The bodywork seems predominantly well presented
No major dents, dings or deformations are noted
The panel gaps remain tight and symmetrical
Cabin glass and light lenses appear original and free from discolouration
The sumptuous interior is swathed in light grey, ruched leather
Accents of dark wood veneer are present to provide some contrast
The condition of the seat leather appears excellent with very little wear noted
Some pieces of trim are a little misaligned and a front speaker cover is broken
A degree of mould appears present on some of the doors upper fabric trim
Edges of acoustic matting appear to protrude from under the rear bench
This is clearly a superbly equipped, fitted and finished luxury cabin, however
Notes refinements include electric glass sunroof and Command system screen
The front seats are fully electrically operated, heated and offer memory functions
A remote boot release function is noted as is switchable dynamic suspension
Satellite navigation and a multifunction steering wheel are also present
The well-sized boot is home to a warning triangle, spare wheel original took kit
