The Appeal
The original Spitfire borrowed some wartime imagery for its name and sculptural styling from Michelotti to become an introduction to two-seater sports car motoring for a generation of enthusiasts. With production continuing for 18 years it’s no surprise that these cars remain so important to nostalgic enthusiasts.
This car is part of that theme because the current keeper was gifted it as an 18th birthday present when it was new. She found it and bought it back in 2014, shortly after it had received a comprehensive restoration refinishing it in its original Triumph New White.
As an early Mk2 it retains the lovely purity of those Michelotti lines and details, notably the front and rear styling with its delicate chrome, grille and lights. The car has been little used in recent years but remains in good, usable condition. There is scope for the buyer to take it to the next level, but nothing that appears immediately pressing.
In April 2025 the car received an extensive engine check over and tune up. The work included plugs, points, valve clearances and timing. So it should be ready to drive.
It comes to market with a removable soft top and rare hard top in matching white.
