The Appeal
Charming, characterful, and unmistakably Italian, the Fiat 500 remains one of the most endearing classics of its era. By 1966, the little “Cinquecento” had become a symbol of stylish urban mobility, loved for its simplicity, affordability, and timeless design.
This particular example, first registered in September 1966, is a delightful period-correct and unmodified car, finished in its factory colour, Azzurro Acquamarina. It’s reported to have undergone a bare-metal respray and extensive rebuild, during which any rust was cut out and new panels fitted. The chrome bumpers and trims have been polished rather than replaced or rechromed, preserving that authentic 1960s character, while the fabric sunroof, window rubbers, and door rubbers have been renewed.
Inside, the interior presents beautifully, with refurbished original seats, new red and white piped seat covers, matching door cards, and new carpets throughout. Even the details, from the white steering wheel and round speedometer to the smartly finished boot, speak to the care taken in its ownership.
Under the rear lid, the 500cc two-cylinder air-cooled engine was reportedly rebuilt in 2015, upgraded with an electric fuel pump, new alternator, and recent clutch, and remains “mechanically in great condition”, according to the vendor. With just three registered keepers and existing ownership since 2011, this Fiat offers a rare opportunity to enjoy an honest, well-cared-for example of Italy’s most iconic car, easy to own, tax and MOT exempt, and utterly irresistible.
