The Appeal
It’s not hard to imagine why this car’s first keeper picked it: as an antidote to Patrica Burt’s record-winning racing career, this C107 would have offered an opportunity to relax in comfort, albeit with decent power still on hand.
The C107 provides all the well-engineered, smooth-riding qualities of the R107 convertible but with extra space and a classic pillarless profile. Often in the shadow of its more populous sibling, these V8-powered coupes make really good cruisers and long-distance GTs.
This highly original ‘73 350SLC is one of the nicest we’ve seen in a while. Finished in the fetching period combination of Champagne Gold metallic with light beige velour, it was acquired by the current keeper from Burt’s husband, also a racer, in 2014. It has had just three keepers, two of them the original husband and wife.
The condition is impressive and shines out of the photos. We’re told that the car was recommissioned when the vendor acquired the car. The work was sympathetically applied, retaining the car’s originality - particularly in the interior - wherever possible. This is a really tidy example of the excellent C107.
The vendor says:
“The car is a smooth cruiser and puts a smile on our faces when we drive it, it gets many looks from passers-by who if given a chance stop and ask questions. Since we have had the vehicle it has never been out in the rain.”
