The Appeal
Borrowing the stronger 3L flat six from the 930, the early 80s SC is arguably a particular sweet spot in what is, admittedly, a lineage of air-cooled cars with an array of sweet spots. For classic 911 fans who like to use their cars, these cars make a great choice. The seller of this one would know - he uses it regularly, including for a PCGB trip to York for the ‘Analogue Alchemy’ event.
This very pretty 1982 car features the ‘one year only’ shade of Wine Red metallic. That is the jumping off point for a really nice specification that includes black Fuchs with polished rims and a black leather interior with Momo wheel.
The history file is both thick and impressive. We are told the engine and gearbox were rebuilt in 2008 and 2013. It remains a matching-numbers car across both items. In recent years the car has been maintained by a former McLaren F1 mechanic in Bath, with the list of work and the investment involved being extensive. We’ve provided full details below.
Thanks to its maintenance and condition, this is the sort of 911 you can jump in and enjoy. There is scope to improve the original interior, if you want, but with a car this entertaining, perhaps that can wait. It carries the transparency of a voluntary MOT to May 2026.
The vendor says:
“This 911 is just special, the colour, the level of history, investment & the way LIL drives!
Huge electrical & mechanical investment over many years means this is the perfect driving classic, day or night. Lil has just completed the PCGB roadtrip to York for the annual 'Analogue Alchemy' celebrations.
“LIL is exceptional to drive after much mechanical and electrical investment over many years, just before my ownership and during. Ensuring LIL fits this description has been my priority since purchasing as my DoB dream 911 in March 2023. The bespoke SCART exhaust ensures an authentic but louder flat 6 note without sounding inappropriate. The upgraded lights (all round) ensure you feel safe driving at night and can enjoy long road trips without worry. The original ‘wine red metallic’ colour is so special and limited to just 1982 cars with limited numbers left on UK roads.
“With some reasonable paintwork & interior investment, LIL could be one of the best 911sc on the market.”
