The Appeal
Developed with help from TWR, its racing partner, the X300 XJR was Jaguar’s first serious attempt to bring back the mojo of its 1960s super saloons. Supercharging the durable AJ6 engine delivered north of 300bhp, yet the usual Jaguar wood and leather refinements remained firmly intact. This was a sporting saloon with character that Audi and BMW could only dream of.
The trick when buying one is to find a good, unmolested and properly maintained example. There are plenty about, but not all fit that description. This low-mileage ‘95 model certainly does. Finished in the popular combination of dark blue metallic with ivory leather, it wears its age lightly thanks to sparing use and good maintenance.
The usual XJR check areas across the bodywork present well, and the interior is equally preserved. The car is standard save for a set of five-spoke alloys from the later XJR model.
The vendor acquired the car in 2019 and has entrusted it to specialist Jagutek for maintenance. Recent work includes a brake system overhaul, including pads, discs and callipers and a new stainless steel exhaust system. Other work has included new track rod ends, wheel bearing, oxygen sensor, fuel pump and new fuel tank.
The current MOT, valid to March 2026, shows none of the structural queries that often plague poorly maintained cars. As such, this supercharged super saloon looks ready to enjoy.
The vendor says:
“The car runs very well and has not had any modifications. It is lovely, very good to drive, smooth and yet has the extra power with the supercharger.”
