The Appeal
If you’re getting visions of a beautifully liveried Alfa Red 155 blasting around Europe’s race circuits, we’re with you. Between 1992 and 1996, notably piloted by Gabriele Tarquini and Nicola Larini, the 155 was one of the most successful touring cars of the era, snatching titles in the Italian Superturismo Championship, the German DTM, the Spanish Touring Car Championship, and, of course, the BTCC.
The extreme-wide-body Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft 155 heavily influenced the creation of this car, the lauded Series II ‘wide body’ 155 road car. They can be identified by the flared arches covering a 26mm wider front and rear track. That, plus a quicker steering rack, turned the 155 from a so-so handler into a proper driver’s car. Beneath the sharp-nosed bonnet lay the 16V version of Alfa’s revvy Twin Spark with significantly improved throttle response compared to the old 8V unit.
Despite those qualities, the 155 was never a big seller in the UK, so this 1996 Series II survivor is a proper find. It is a tidy, usable, factory-standard black car with a grey fabric interior. As it enters its 30th year, there is scope to improve it, but perhaps driving it will be the buyer’s first priority.
The history file shows regular servicing during the car’s early life, with more sparing use in recent years. The seller advises a cambelt change and service. The MOT, valid to December 2026, shows no structural advisories.
The vendor says:
“Car runs and drives great, ph1 Twinspark engine is nice and responsive, cambelt history and last service is not known, so advise belt is changed
“Really good, genuine, wide body example with the possibility of being concours.”
