The Appeal
The Buick Master Six marked a pivotal shift in Buick's automotive lineup, spanning the production years from 1925 to 1928. Prior to this model, Buick had employed a six-cylinder 242 engine for their premium vehicles and a four-cylinder engine for their more economical counterparts. However, in a strategic move in 1925, Buick phased out the four-cylinder engine and introduced a compact six-cylinder engine known as the Standard 6, positioned to cater to the lower end of the market.
Simultaneously, at the higher end of their vehicle range, Buick unveiled the Master Six, featuring the robust 255 engine, which had been introduced the preceding year. This decision not only streamlined Buick's offerings but also consolidated its commitment to the performance and prestige associated with the Master Six series.
The Standard Six and Master Six were available in various body styles, with the latter being higher priced and laden with more distinctive features. The Master Six rode on a longer wheelbase than the Standard Six, at 120 or 128 inches, depending on the body style, versus the 114.4 inches of the Standard Six.
This 1927 Master Six was used until four years ago when it developed an engine fault. After investigation, it was decided that a piston had failed, causing the fault. The engine was partially stripped, and a new set of pistons ordered, ready to be rebuilt. Unfortunately, this was as far as the repair went due to bereavement, and it is now being sold as a restoration project.

The Condition
- Finished in cream and black
- There is some patina to the body
- Some blistering and corrosion is present in places around the body
- Headlights are in good condition with no damage to the lenses
- The chrome bezels on the side lights have corroded
- Optional indicators have been installed
- There is a small split in the rear indicator
- The brightwork has some tarnishing, but this doesn't appear to be excessive
- There is some corrosion to the roof, which does appear to have let some water in
- Period Esso fuel can
- Original wooden wheels look to be in good condition
- The tyres do have signs of perishing
- The steering wheel is in good condition, with just some light tarnishing to the spokes
- Original switchgear looks in good order but is untested
- The odometer shows a reading of 85,481 miles
- All instruments are untested
- The front and rear seats appear in good order, with just some minor signs of age
- Matching door cards have some light staining and fading
The Mechanics
