1929 Matchless Model X

Highlights

  • A near-century-old pre-war British heavyweight V-twin motorcycle
  • Powered by the 982cc side-valve V-twin engine, later adopted by Brough Superior for the SS80
  • Classic sidecar fitted
  • First-year example of the Model X line, which ran from 1929 to 1940

The Appeal

The 1929 Matchless Model X occupies a distinguished position in British motorcycling history. Its 982cc side-valve V-twin was so well-regarded that it was later adopted by Brough Superior for their celebrated SS80.
This particular machine is presented in black and silver livery with red pinstripes and a tan seat pad, and comes fitted with a classic sidecar finished in black, with blue wheel arches and a black vinyl seat. A rear-mounted storage case adds practicality to the outfit. At nearly a century old, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a heavyweight pre-war V-twin sidecar combination, a machine from the very dawn of the Model X bloodline.
