The Appeal
The Singer Le Mans was a higher-performance version of the 9 built to capitalise on the firm’s success at the erstwhile French circuit and the ‘Long Tail’ added four-seat capability. Designed by Eric Neale, who later worked on Jensen’s 50s GTs, it was one of the prettiest sports cars of the pre-war era.
As this car proves. Beautifully finished in appropriate British Racing Green with black leather, it is in really good condition. It is nicely detailed too, including the bright chromework, leather bonnet straps and those evocative black wires with their recently fitted Blockley vintage tyres.
We’re told that this matching-numbers car has been in the current keeper’s family for many years and was restored 15 years ago. It has just been recommissioned after storage at a reported cost of £6,000. That work included general checks, carburettor overhaul, new vintage Blockley tyres and attention to the braking system.
With just 400 built and only 40 believed to survive, here is a rare chance to acquire a less obvious pre-war classic with impressive provenance.
The vendor says:
“Finished in striking British Racing Green with matching green wheels, its stretched silhouette carries the elegance and grit of classic motorsport. Ready to move to a new home that appreciates the car.”
