Has been in regular practical use for ground maintenance
A fascinating piece of vintage construction machinery
The Appeal
Take a walk in the countryside, and you'll probably see the skeletal remains of an old roller in the corner of a field. But working survivors are vanishingly rare, and important pieces of agricultural history that deserve to be kept alive. We were pleased to hear that this rather lovely 1944 Fordson E27N Barford roller is not only working but still in regular use.
The E27N formed the backbone of British agricultural and industrial mechanisation during and after the Second World War. When fitted with a Barford roller conversion, these machines became powerful ground compaction tools used extensively in road building and land maintenance.
Our Barford roller was purchased by the vendor at auction and has since been put to practical use at Moorhouse Campsite, where it has been employed for flattening and maintaining areas of the site. The vendor reports that it drives well, reaching approximately 7–8 mph in third gear. It is a very large machine with real presence and character.
Whether destined for a collection of vintage agricultural or construction machinery, a working display, or continued practical use, this is an uncommon opportunity. Prospective buyers should note that this is a very substantial machine and will require suitable tractor and trailer transport for collection.image.png1.86 MB
