The RMC was Riley’s bid to join the post-war ‘export or die’ drive with a big, luxurious, hand-built grand tourer to wow American buyers. Equipped with the firm’s ‘Big Four’ 100bhp 2.4L engine, it was said to be good for 100mph - perfect for the nation’s emerging high-speed interstates. 

Things didn’t quite work out, and just 504 found buyers. Today these rare and distinctive tourers are sought after for exactly those qualities and because they represent a final high water mark in the illustrious history of the Riley brand. This 1950 car is said to be an original RHD factory car that returned to the UK in 2002. It has subsequently had five keepers, the current one since 2023. He tells us that the car, including the bright red paintwork, is very original and retains matching numbers across the engine and chassis. 

The smart cream leather interior and the matching fabric roof are recent replacements costing over £3,000. Mechanically, it is said to run well with no faults and to also be reliable. The large history file shows repairs to the brakes, steering system and service work in 2020 and attention to the fuel lines in 2023. There is a further long list of work detailed below.
