The Appeal
Of the approximately 30,000 MG TDs produced between 1949 and 1953, only 1,656 were retained for the home market, with the vast majority exported to the United States. A right-hand drive UK car, as a result, is a pretty scarce thing; certainly a very desirable one.
This 1952 TD, finished in Autumn Red, carries a particularly notable history. Its first keeper, a Mr Scott, can be seen with the car in a photograph published on the T-Type register website. In the late 1950s, it was acquired by John Les, the renowned Welsh artist from Glan Conwy and father of Drew Pritchard of TV's Salvage Hunters fame. John kept and maintained the car as part of his collection of classic vehicles and motorcycles for over 50 years until his passing. The vendor, who has known this TD for over 40 years, subsequently acquired it via John's famous son.
The car presents well in its Autumn Red finish, with bodywork in good order and age-appropriate wear to the paintwork. Powered by its XPAG four-cylinder engine and four-speed manual gearbox, this is a fine opportunity to acquire a well-cared-for British sports car with genuinely notable provenance.image.png1.71 MB
