The Appeal
Perhaps one of the most iconic cars in history - the Citroën DS and its quirky, futuristic body design changed the face of car design forever, aided by the innovative technology that set new standards for ride comfort, handling and braking. These are simply one of the finest pieces of motoring tech to leave Europe.
This example of the DS19M has been boldly converted into a cabriolet, following the lineage of the Decapotable Cabriolet d’Usine by Henri Chapron. It comes to us in a stylish pearl grey and captures the personality of its prototype flawlessly.
The History and Paperwork

The interior of this remarkable DS19 is as fabulous as the car’s exterior styling. Everything here has been beautifully restored, with no signs of rips, tears or significant wear across the board. The period condition is a great example of retro-futurism, with plenty of chrome and stainless steel on the dash, tactile instruments and soft, cossetting, armrest-addled seats.
It’s clear that the car has been cossetted since it was restored in 2004, with the resultant wear being insignificant on the interior’s remarkable condition. We can spot the slightest creasing, and minimal smatterings of patina to the chromework - but it’s of no major impact.
The boot is equally clean and well-kept, while the spare wheel is stowed comfortably in the engine bay with a toolkit, having never been used.

Exceptional pearl grey paintwork adorns this beautiful cabrio - the space-age Bertoni bodywork is a masterpiece, something we feel is only further exemplified with the redesigned nose and its additional Marchal lamps. Even with the loss of the iconic fibreglass roof, this is a superb, futuristic automobile with innovation at its core.
The paintwork is in excellent order, still capturing and reflecting the light perfectly with minimal signs of wear. This is adorned by chromework that’s carrying only the slightest signs of wear, with plenty of bright silver flashing against the otherwise dark colour scheme.
The car’s panel fit seems excellent with no major faults to report, and we can’t spot any dents or dings. It’s sat on a set of restored ‘Sombrero’ wheels, which are still shining beautifully. These are wearing a full set of Michelin Radial 165R400 tyres, which look in good order.
Underneath, the car is solid and clean - with stainless steel exhausts nice and clean and the suspension in top-notch condition.

The vendor informs us that this car’s mechanics are all in excellent order, with no signs of oil leaks, knocks, bangs or smoke. As expected, the car is starting on a quarter turn and the hydraulics work very well after a few seconds of being kicked in.
The car’s engine bay is a beautiful thing to behold, with the metalwork in excellent order, the spare wheel still safely strapped in and the mechanics all nice and clean.
Put simply, this car looks ready to hit the road at any time - and will provide plenty of comfort to both driver and passenger.
Summary
If you want a good-looking cabriolet, there aren’t many examples that could rival this space-age beauty. With winning paintwork, a superb interior and an excellent conversion under its belt, this is the ideal car for top-down sunny country motoring.
