The Appeal
"I had always driven very speedy cars. I had an Alfa Romeo, also a BMW, and others... By the end of the war, I had a Volkswagen Cabriolet with a supercharged engine, and that was the basic idea. I saw that if you had enough power in a small car, it is nicer to drive than if you have a big car which is also overpowered. And it is more fun. On this basic idea, we started the first Porsche prototype.”
That was the account given by 356 creator Ferry Porsche, son of company founder Ferdinand Porsche. The car Ferry created kick-started the post-war sports car industry and laid down the blueprint for the legendary 911.
This 1963 example is a 356B T6 Super 90, which boasts a 90 hp flat-four engine. The Porsche has been restored to a high standard and refinished in its original and sought-after Slate Grey. The vendor has been fortunate to have driven many 356s and remarks that this is one of the very best they've experienced. They state: "Complemented by a lovely gear shift, the 90 hp engine pulls very well with smooth power delivery."
Currently being prepared for sale in the vendor's workshops, this Super 90 presents a fine opportunity for collectors seeking a high-quality example of this iconic sports car.
