The Appeal
The Simca 1000 Coupé Bertone was always bound to be a masterclass - the French marque collaborating with Giorgetto Giugiaro, who at the time was but a newly-appointed young designer at Bertone's legendary coachworks. This compact coupé was a deeply handsome, achingly stylish car - and was intended to help raise Simca's market share against its rivals at Renault. Only 300 or so are believed to remain.
This particular 1964 example is especially noteworthy for its originality and careful preservation. Never restored, it has been consistently maintained throughout its life and always garaged indoors according to the previous owner.
Recent preparation has been thorough and comprehensive. The mechanical refresh includes electronic ignition, a new brake master cylinder, replacement of all brake hoses, an engine service with oil change, and radiator cleaning with fresh coolant. Four new Hankook tyres have been fitted, along with a new battery and indicator relay unit. The result is a car that reportedly drives beautifully with smooth gear changes, very good braking performance, and pleasant, easy steering.
