The appeal

The Citroën HY is one of the world’s most recognisable commercial vehicles. Its undulating body panels, front-wheel drive and distinctive profile have made it a familiar sight on French roads for decades. The long-wheelbase HY 72 variant is particularly prized for its generous proportions. This 1965 example, painted in British Racing Green with varnished woodwork providing an elegant contrast, has a particularly distinctive appearance.

Owned by its current owner since 2012, this HY has been kept in a locked garage and has received a great deal of care. Extensive mechanical and cosmetic work has been carried out, whilst the seller states that the vehicle runs without any mechanical issues. It has a roadworthiness certificate valid until March 2028 and is in good overall condition for a commercial vehicle over 60 years old.

Potential buyers should note, however, that the horse compartment – corresponding to the van’s original intended use – remains incomplete. There are also a few cosmetic flaws, as detailed below. Given its ownership history and the extent of the work carried out, this HY 72 nevertheless provides an attractive basis for further restoration.
