The Appeal
The 1R was, and is, an amazing piece of design and engineering. Purpose-built for Italy’s smallholders and therefore light, robust, easy to work on and agile, it also displayed Italianate verve with its classic orange and blue colour scheme. This is a tractor you could see working from miles away.
Featuring Lamborghini’s air-cooled 1.5L diesel engine plus innovations like a fully synchromesh 3spd gearbox, the 1R was built in relatively small numbers. This 1967 example is a desirable pre-facelift model with the smoother, flowing front end. It has been subject to a truly extensive, high-level restoration that, as the photos show, covered virtually every area of the tractor from mechanics to aesthetics.
It has been used only for shows and display since restoration, so it remains in extremely good condition. The vendor describes it as ‘concours’ - you can judge for yourself in the photos. It is said to be matching numbers with documentation to prove this. A collector-grade example of the very desirable and sought-after 1R.
